What is EAP? Employee Assistance Programs (EAP’s) are employee benefit programs offered by many employers.

We believe that the health and well being of a company’s workforce is imperative to the success of the business and by having staff operating at optimal health not only benefits the employee but the employer and the whole work environment.

EAPs are intended to help employees deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their job performance, health, and well-being.

EAPs generally include short-term counselling and referral services for employees and their household members. 

How does it work?

As part of the EAP the Employer will offer staff members a number of counselling sessions at no expense to the Employee, either via company vouchers or by the EAP Provider invoicing the Company directly for services rendered.

The Aim of EAP

EAP’s aim to ensure that all Australian workers are supported and provided with preventive and proactive interventions for the early detection, identification and/or resolution of both work and personal problems that may adversely affect performance and wellbeing.

Lifeskills Australia – EAP

Lifeskills Australia has been providing EAP Counselling services for work and non – work related issues, to employees and their families for the past 8 years.

Some reasons for referral are:

  • Dealing with workplace conflict
  • Work-life balance issues
  • Interpersonal issues
  • Substance abuse
  • Discrimination and harassment
  • Bullying
  • Marital, family and other personal issues
  • Dealing with loss and grief
  • Adjustment during times of organisational change; including redundancy/end of contract

Lifeskills recognises that every organisation is different and can tailor the EAP structure and referral system to suit your individual needs and preferences within your organisation.

Confidentiality

Due to strict Confidentially Policies within the Counselling Association all appointments made through an EAP are strictly confidential.

EAP Providers cannot disclose any information to the Employer. This is so any Employee seeking counselling does not feel they are potentially endangering their future within the organization.

Employees have access to our EAP hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no need to wait until they get to work or worry about calling from work during work hours.


Achieving Outcomes

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides your business with the opportunity to reduce its people risks by providing confidential and effective solution focused counselling to employees and their families. Our aim is to work with you to improve staff morale and productivity in the workplace by reducing the incidence of absenteeism and the affects of stress, anxiety, depression and other symptoms that can negatively impact on staff and the work environment.


As part of being an EAP Provider Lifeskills Centre has been called upon several times in the past year to attend to a fatality in the work place. This is something we never take lightly and have a crisis management plan in place so we can have a counsellor to your work place immediately. 

We will help staff deal with their emotions by following the ‘5 stage of grief’ guidelines. We will assist staff to understand what everyone else is going through and get everyone on the same page so that the employees and management feel a sense of control, security and leadership as soon as possible.

Lifeskills Centre is fully equipped to handle any situation that may arise in the work place. Whether a fatality, harassment/bullying or conflict amongst employees, we have the tools and experience to step straight in and resolve issues and get your team back to working safely and productively.

Our team at Lifeskills Centre has been conducting ‘Mental Health Awareness’ workshops to large companies within the local CBD as well as travelling to mine sites in the Pilbara to promote ‘Mental Health Awareness’ to FIFO employees and managers.

Whilst on site we have also offered one-on-one counselling sessions to staff that are either isolated/remote as well as in the city to Executive staff whom never seem to have time to leave the office.

This service has proved to be highly successful for our EAP clients. There are not a lot of counsellors that offer this service, but at Lifeskills Centre we thrive on rolling our sleeves up and helping people when they need the help most, right there and then on the spot! And because of the very successful outcomes LifeSkills Centre has been asked to return and present other workshops and one-on-one counselling.


Lee Pagana/Lifeskills was recommended to us by a colleague on the basis that she could assist with staff communication issues.What started as a simple (and probably common) staffing issue, unfortunately escalated, and thankfully Lee was of great assistance in helping to resolve the problem swiftly.  Feedback from those involved was extremely positive, in that it not only assisted with their work relationships, but with some personal issues.On the basis of this outcome, we would have no hesitation in recommending Lee and Lifeskills to any company faced with similar issues.Lee’s approach and style to cut through the crap and get to the base of the problem, of course after due process and intense listening, would, I have no doubt, be of great benefit to others.
